It’s been around 7 months since me and my family moved to Bali. While we’ve been thinking about this for about a year, the actual decision came roughly 3 months before our departure.
Starting from our journey here, we experienced a lot of ‘first time’. This is our first time moving far away. It was our first time doing a road trip and crossing an island by ferry. It is also our first time enrolling kids in offline school.
Looking back at it, if there’s one thing that I learned from all those things, it is to adapt.
Not only adapting to the new environment because we have a new place to live, but also adapting to all the things that we faced and learning how to accept those. Once we learn how to accept, then we can learn how to move forward and grow with it.
⌚ We depart late. We were planning to depart at 4 AM on the recommendations of friends who regularly do Jakarta-Bali trips. We ended up leave at 8 AM.
🏨 We made an extra stop. We thought Surabaya would be our first (and only) stop. We ended up stayed at Solo and Banyuwangi. Even then, we arrived at those places way later than we thought they would be.
⌛ I missed some meetings due to miscommunication in time zone.
👕 I’m anxious when I cannot see some things in person. As we at Tees.co.id do merchandise business, I’m used to checking samples and finished goods regularly.
📉 I felt my performance level was decreasing because there were new things that I needed to do, including driving and picking up my daughter, housekeeping, etc.
It may take some time, and some reflection in process, but we learn to manage our expectation and accept things as it is.
It’s okay if not everything goes as planned, as long as we learn from it.
It’s okay if it took some time for us to adapt and ‘feel at home’ when moving to a new environment.
Always be thankful for the experienced you gain during the process.
